The Gretton Pub Survey 2012

Picture
Gretton Pub Survey 2012
The Gretton Pub Survey was initiated on 3rd January 2012. It was published with the following introductory message
"In Gretton, we are very lucky to have three traditional pubs and four if you include the Sports and Social Club. We have seen a number of changes in the village over the last few months with many new houses, quite a few existing residents moving home and at least two of the village pubs being put up for sale.

I feel that as residents we should have the opportunity to give our views about our pubs and help the Landlords with their service in 2012."

Any comments and feedback on the survey are most welcome and you may post them here within the blog.

Background
I have been asked the reason and timing behind the production of this survey. I am happy to provide my explanation.

Whenever I am chatting to Gretton residents, which is quite often, the subject seems to inevitable get around to expressing their views about Gretton pubs. For a variety of reasons this is not always complimentary and then the statement "someone should do something". When asked no one ever seems to know who that someone is.

I often visit pubs and restaurants in neighbouring villages and towns and am not alone; almost without exception I meet someone else from Gretton. While many people seek variety I am concerned that Gretton Pubs are missing opportunities and I am not convinced they can afford to be so complacent in 2012.

And finally I am not an outside observer. I have lived in Gretton for over 25 years. I founded Gretton Neighbourhood Watch, The Gretton Raft Race, The Gretton Horse Races, The Gretton Open Golf & The Gretton Music Festival. All of which have had a relationship with Gretton's pubs. I want our pubs to be successful and I don't want any to close.

It is for these reasons I initiated the Gretton Pub Survey and I hope and pray that the Landlords recognise that the 125 respondents are potential customers who are sharing their wishes for their village. The easy route would be to take notice and give your customer what they want. The rewards will be there for all to see.

Now some formal bits.

Survey Questions
There were only six significant questions in the survey which were;
  • "Which pubs have you visited?" see answers here
  • "How would you rate the quality of beer?" see answers here
  • "How would you rate the quality of food?" see answers here
  • "How would you rate the Character, Atmosphere, Friendliness & Welcome?" see answers here
  • "How would you rate the value for money?" see answers here
  • "How much will you spend in Gretton Pubs in 2012? see answers here
Survey Summary
This was an online survey and there were 125 responses. All answers were anonymous and duplicate answers from the same source were prohibited. The survey was originally planned to run to the end of February. It was, though, closed on 20th February as the management of the Talbot was imminently changing. The summarised answers to all survey questions are included within this website.

Of the respondents 65 provided additional narrative to their answers. This has been complied without changes and provided to the landlords for their own use. If anyone else thinks this information could be of use they should contact me directly.
